Creating Realistic Disintegration Effects with Houdini and Nuke


The workshop provides two hours of video training in?Houdini, SideFX?s industry-standard effects software, and?Nuke, Foundry?s compositing software.

Create a simple disintegration effects for VFX, motion graphics or games work
In the tutorial, Choi explains how to simulate a character turning to ash and blowing away, using?Pyro Source Spread?to spread the effect.

Specific topics covered include how to use the?SOP Solver, how to maintain control of the?DOP network, how to create additional particles on top of a cloth simulation created using the?Vellum solver, and simple VEX coding.

The tutorial also covers how to use?COPs?and Nuke for compositing.

The concepts demonstrated in the tutorial can also be applied to Houdini?s?Bullet?rigid body solver and?FLIP?fluid dynamics solvers.

As well as the videos themselves, viewers can download the project files for the tutorial in .hiplc format, which can be edited in?Houdini Indie.

Choi GIl Nam is Effects Supervisor at DNEG Vancouver. He has worked in VFX for over 20 years, at studios including Weta Digital, Industrial Light & Magic, and Digital Domain.

His credits include Aquaman, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Suicide Squad, Zack Snyder?s Justice League, Black Widow and Pacific Rim.
